San giminiano & Volterra

Early day....even if ex-OOD was quite flustered about it, to visit San Giminiano. Managed as planned to make it by 9.30 when they opened the tower. And we were the first ones up there to admire the view.....on our way back, the whole place looked like an airport with masses of tourists walking around. There was this group of tourists, french by the looks and further confirmed by the guide speaking to them in french. She was taking them on the pitoresque path, from where you could see the country side and she went on explaining to them :" comme vous voyez, des toits, des champs, des oliviers, des cyprès, tout vert, très très beau"...and the tourist uttering in unison an "Oooooooh!" and doing the nippy thing of taking out the cameras and flashing all over the place.

Now if this what guides have to say to gain their keep.....I can be one of them any day...and pretty sure I could be a darn good one.

After San Giminiano it was Volterra to be visited.....ended up stuffing ourselves in an irish pub serving gnocchi and faggioli & salsicia.....how irish.

I like the Volterra's Duomo, very unusual back entrance abca8bd71a01fba5d69c52b1c2f16b95.jpg
